Our 2nd Masterclass/ Webinar for the month of July held on the 18th July 2020; and our guest was an EIM mentor, Dr. Olutoyin Asaolu. With passion exuding per sentence, she took us on a beautiful journey into the world of Gastro-enterology and Hepatology; but don’t take my word for it… listen to the reviews by participants:

“….  The take home statement I will never forget in a long time is: PUT SYSTEMS IN PLACE TO SUCCEED. This statement is all encompassing to fit in planning for your targeted goals, time tables and deadlines, networking, requirements such as research studies for your career goal, personal improvement including attitude and your inter-relationship skills, etcetera. A big thank you to Dr. Toyin.”- Dr. A.A

“The session was beyond wonderful. I learnt so much. Dr. Toyin is such a great and intelligent speaker and so easy to relate with her. I learnt the importance of NETWORKING as well as MENTORING!!! You are not an island, you need to surround and connect with people. Thank you Dr. Toyin for today. You are truly an inspiration to me.”- Dr. D.D.

“I just want to say Thank you Dr Toyin for reminding me that I am an awesome woman physician; thank you for clearly sharing the importance of the right attitude; thank you For reiterating the import of due diligence, that’s when my Relevance would shine…” Dr. T.L.

“Thank you EIM network for this amazing opportunity! I recently got a small book for all my EIM sessions and today I had to make myself stop writing so that I don’t use too many pages. Every point was pure gold and I really wanted to make sure I got it all down. ✍”- Dr. D.O

“Today’s webinar further opened my mind. I learnt a lot from Dr Toyin…as someone who is very much interested in internal medicine and seriously considering gastroenterology, I must say I’m really impressed. As someone who loves to do hands-on practice alongside clinical work, GIT is a good place to be because of procedures… Thank you very much Dr Toyin”-Dr. T.O.

“Today’s session was nothing short of amazing! It was the bomb! Dr TOYIN literally poured out herself today and I could feel the heat of her burning passion for gastroenterology. But beyond gastroenterology, there was so much wisdom! Gosh!” – Dr. S.O.

“What an amazing and impactful session! Don’t forget, you always need a tribe!”- Dr. A.O.

Here are a few snapshots of the event/take home points:

  1. You Need the Right Attitude: Your attitude is very important and can be a determining factor to whether you get recommendations from the right quarters, regardless of your achievements. Confidence is not arrogance. Learn to invest in people and they will invest in you.
  2. You Need Mentorship: Mentorship helps to transfer legacies from generation to generation. In Dr Toyin’s words: “You can have gold and waste it if you don’t know how to use it or have someone to teach you how to use it”.
Mentors help us see our potentials so we can better utilise them. Grateful for the gift of all our EIM mentors!
  3. Don’t Disregard Other African Opportunities: As a Nigerian Doctor, there are so many other African opportunities available to you, don’t disregard them! The power of networking and mentoring will also open your eyes to these amazing opportunities around you.
  4.  Diligence: Whatever is committed into your hands, do it excellently such that in future people can vouch for you and recommend you even in your absence. You are a solution!
  5. Passion is Key: There’s something you’re deeply passionate about. Allow your passion to shine through! For example, if you love advocacy, you can channel it in the direction of preventive medicine; curating helpful tips to help people live better etc.
