Episode 4

“Hello, madam, how do you feel now?”, asked a young fellow looking down at her. “I feel pain on my neck and a slight headache, ” she replied.
“OK, I’m Ifeanyi, a physiotherapist and I’ll be placing a collar on your neck, don’t worry, it’s soft though rigid. It will help ease the pain and keep your neck steady “.
Charisa thanked him and actually felt better when the collar was applied.  Other doctors kept attending to her, one fixed her leg in a cast and others just stared at her and walked away after giving instructions to the nurses and their younger colleagues on what to do.
There was however this young female doctor that picked her interest, she was more like the errand girl around.  Everyone kept shouting orders at her, and she kept at it, trying to carry them all out. You could see the fatigue in her eyes and though she could still manage a smile here and there, it was obvious that she was exhausted.

Mr B was an elderly man who was writhing in pain as he lay on his bed. His son had told the doctor things Charisa couldn’t hear from where she lay but she could see the doctor take a look at Mr B’s abdomen and she couldn’t help but notice a swelling on his lower abdomen. The doctor scribbled something out on a sheet of paper and asked his son to get them.

Soon enough, the son was back with the items.
The doctor them came back to Mr B’s bedside and covered him with a curtain. After a while, the curtain was drawn and Mr B looked quite relieved. He kept on praying for and blessing the young doctor, praying for a good husband and a happy home with many children running around.
From where she lay, Charisa could see the doctor smile shyly, while trying to decipher what magic she had worked on Mr B to make him go all out blessing her.
Then it hit her. There was a tube connected to a clear bag that contained something that looked like urine hanging from Mr B’s knickers.

“Oh, now I get”, she thought to herself.
She thought of how inability to do the little common things of life like passing urine could put one in so much distress, urinating that no one had to think about before doing. It was so ordinary yet so vital as to put someone in much distress and pain as Mr B had been.

God is truly amazing to have put everything together in such a delicate balance, one which a little shift could ruin everything.
God is amazing.
