As light is to the world, so are the eyes to the body, for just as light shines to brighten up the earth, without the eyes our bodies are dark.

After life itself, the next important thing to enable man carry out his activities is the ability to see, with sight, every other thing is possible, without sight, they are not impossible but be become really challenging to achieve. Thanks to technological advancements, life has become easier for the blind with developments like the brail system of reading and so many others.

On this 2025 WORLD SIGHT DAY, the theme remains the same, “LOVE YOUR EYES” to re-emphasize the importance of caring for the very organs that light up our lives. A lot of  negligence and refusal to heed to warning signs leads to irreversible blindness which completely turns ones life around.

Here are simple but effective keys to loving your eyes abd ensuring they keep your life bright:

1. Frequent eye checkup: you may be seeing well but damage my be occurring at the part of your eyes that you cannot see hence the need for a professional to frequently evaluate your eyes for early detection and prompt treatment.

2. Prompt presentation at the eye clinic in case of trauma to the eyes like chemical injuries or foreign body insertion.

3. Reduce screen time. As technology advances, most of our work are now computer based hence constant screen time, and with social media, one finds oneself always staring at the phone screen. These need to be curbed and protection need to be worn to reduce light intensity and prevent damage to the eyes.

4. Proper use of contact lens to prevent introduction of microorganisms into the eyes.

5. Promptly and properly treat upper respiratory tract infections to prevent spread to the eyes that can ultimately become sight-threathening and life-threatening.

In conclusion, we are urged to keep our eyes safe, love them and care for them properly to keep the light coming in.
