Dr Titi was so excited to inform me about the GAWIM conference, infact, she did not seize to stop chatting or answering my many questions until i dosed off.

That night, i dreamt that i was in a five star hotel in Lagos, painted choral with golden tiles and motion sensor doors. I had a spa appointment, got my hair and nails all done, had my makeup on and was wearing a flowing champagne coloured dress. We had a dinner and i was discussing about medicine and science with other female doctors from Ife. One of them was a seamstress and had infact made her dinner gown herself…i was fascinated to see it and wondered what time she had to create such a gorgeous outfit.

Another doctor had baked the cake which was on display and for which my taste buds hadn’t given me a break since, it was beautifully crafted and i couldn’t believe that by the end of the night it would be non-existent. It was fit for a museum not our digestive juices.

The highlight was a talk we had from the convener whom everyone was so excited to meet as they all hadn’t seen her physically before even though they had been members of the network for years. She spoke about how being a woman in medicine was a blessing and how we could hone our different skills at home and at work to give our patients the best without letting any aspect of our lives suffer. She was so eloquent and spoke with so much grace.

I had walked onto the corridor at the back to get some air and catch a glimpse of the busy city, bustling with life and not intending to sleep soon, when i heard someone calling my name from the ground floor, i looked down trying to find the person and then i woke up…my friend Jamila was standing by my bedside and tapping me, reminding me that I had 20 patients waiting for me on the wards to do a pre-round before my superiors came later. I sprang to my feet and rushed to the bathroom, cursing under my breath that such a pleasant dream had been interrupted.
