As i stepped out of the NICU, I felt a dash of cold wind hit my face and i was grateful that i had my turtle-neck sweater on. I wished i could wear a head-warmer at work with some sort of woven or knitted face shield so as to be fully kitted for the weather but these were not possible except i wanted an extension to my housejob period which i was already begging and imploring God to bring to an end. Not because of the climate of the Plateau, no, far from it. But rather because I was mentally, emotionally and physically drained and tired. I was in need of a long break, where i could relax, enjoy body treats and massages and get my glow back for i had been craving this for 11 years now. I suddenly felt foolish for diving right into my housemanship after medical school instead of taking a break and pampering myself. But there was this other part of me that just wanted to get it done with so as to forget about the perceived horrors of a houseman or woman in my case.

However, I was glad i chose the right place because this climate was everything that i longed for…a far cry from the hot and moist weather in Benue.

Plateau, the beautiful.

A land flowing with milk and honey, a land blessed by God.

With her undulating heights of mountains and hills, beautiful city, amazing people, lovely markets, peaceful gardens and parks…it was a gift carefully wrapped and delivered to me.

My mind was jolted back from daydreaming to this post i had just seen on a friend’s status, talking about a GLOBAL AFRICA WOMEN IN MEDICINE CONFERENCE in Lagos, powered by the EXCELLENCE IN MEDICINE FEMALE PHYSICIAN’S NETWORK who called themselves SPEC doctors.

Wow!!!

My eyes popped out of their sockets, my mind wandered on who these people were and what this conference could mean and be to me… and i was on my way to her page to find out.
